Privacy Policy

Effective August 14, 2026

Abound exists to collect people's memories of someone they care about. That is unusually personal material, and we treat it that way.

This policy explains what we collect, why, and who else touches it. It covers two different groups: buyers, who create and pay for a book, and contributors, who are invited to write in one.

What we collect from buyers

When you create an account and order a book, we collect:

  • your name and email address
  • the recipient's name and the occasion
  • the names and contact details of people you invite to contribute
  • your shipping address
  • your order history and its status

We do not collect or store your card details. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe; we receive only a confirmation that a payment succeeded, the amount, and a description of the method used (for example “Visa ending 4242”).

What we collect from contributors

If someone invites you to contribute to a book, we collect the name and email address or phone number they gave us in order to send you the invitation, plus:

  • the answers you write
  • any photos you upload

You do not need an account to contribute, and we do not create one for you.

Please be aware that what you write is intended to be printed in a physical book and given to the recipient. The person who created the book can read, edit or remove your contribution before printing. If you would rather something you wrote not appear, tell us and we will remove it.

How we use it

We use this information only to:

  • build, print and ship the book you ordered or contributed to
  • send invitations, reminders and order updates
  • take payment and issue refunds
  • respond when you contact us

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use contributors' words for anything other than the book they were written for, and we do not use them to market to you.

Who else handles your information

We use a small number of service providers to operate Abound. Each receives only what it needs:

VercelWebsite hosting, and usage analytics — page views and milestone events, with no names, emails or answer text
SupabaseDatabase, accounts, and photo storage
StripePayment processing — they handle card details, we never see them
ResendSending email (invitations, reminders, order updates)
TwilioSending SMS invitations, where a phone number was given
LuluPrinting and shipping — receives the book file and the shipping address

We may also disclose information if we are legally required to, or to protect someone's safety.

How long we keep it

We keep your account, your orders, and the words and photos contributed to your books for as long as your account is open — so you can return to books you've made, and so we can reprint one if something goes wrong.

If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your account, your orders, and the contributions in them within 30 days of the request. Email hello@aboundgifting.com and we will confirm when it is done.

There are two exceptions, and we would rather be plain about both:

  • We cannot recall a book that has already been printed and shipped. Once it is in the post, it belongs to whoever received it.
  • We keep basic transaction records — what was bought, when, and for how much — for seven years, because tax and accounting rules require it. That record does not include the contents of anyone's book.

If you contributed to someone else's book and want your contribution removed, you can ask us directly — you do not need to go through the person who invited you. We will remove your words and any photo you uploaded, provided the book has not yet been printed. After printing we can still remove them from our records, but not from the copy that exists.

Some of the services we rely on keep their own records on their own schedules, independently of ours — payment records with our payment processor, delivery logs with our email and text providers, and print and shipping records with our print partner. Those are the companies listed above.

Your rights and choices

  • Contributors: you can ask us to change or remove anything you wrote, at any time before the book is printed. You do not need to go through the person who invited you.
  • Invitations: every invitation email has an unsubscribe link, and SMS invitations accept STOP.
  • Buyers: you can view and edit your orders from your dashboard, and ask us to delete your account.

Beyond those, you can ask us to do any of the following with the information we hold about you. These rights apply to everyone who uses Abound, wherever you live — several US states grant some of them by law, and rather than work out which ones apply to you, we extend all of them to everybody.

  • See it. Ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
  • Correct it. Tell us something is wrong and we will fix it.
  • Delete it. Ask us to erase it, subject to the two exceptions in “How long we keep it” above.
  • Take it with you. Ask for it in a portable format you can move elsewhere.
  • Appeal. If we turn a request down, you can ask us to look again, and we will explain our reasoning in writing.

Email hello@aboundgifting.com and we will respond within 45 days. If a request is complicated enough that we need longer, we will tell you why before that deadline and take no more than another 45 days. Someone may make a request on your behalf, provided we can reasonably confirm they are authorised to act for you.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. There is no advertising on Abound, we do not run tracking for advertisers, and no data broker receives anything from us. Every company listed above is a service provider doing a job we asked them to do.

Exercising any of these rights costs nothing, and we will not treat you differently for asking.

Children

Abound is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. A child may well be named in a book, or write a contribution through a parent — that is expected and fine. If you believe a child has given us information directly, contact us and we will remove it.

Cookies

We use cookies only to keep you signed in and to keep the site working. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies, and there is nothing here to opt out of.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the effective date at the top, and for anything significant we'll email account holders.
