The story behind Abound

The gifts people
keep forever.

Every year, it was the same story. My parents were impossible to shop for. Whether it was a birthday, Mother’s Day, or a holiday, whatever I bought — a robe, a candle, the latest gadget — was quietly returned. It wasn’t that they weren’t grateful; it was just that if they actually needed something, they already had it. Store-bought objects simply didn’t carry the weight of the occasion.

So, as a kid, I stopped buying and started making. I printed photos, wrote letters, and for my dad’s 50th birthday, I secretly reached out to all of his friends and family to gather their stories about him. I bound them into a single, messy scrapbook.

That was the first gift my parents never returned. In fact, it’s the one they still pull off the shelf today.

The things you can buy get returned. The things people pour themselves into get kept for life.

Why I built Abound

I kept making those books for friends’ weddings, graduations, and retirements. But every time I did, I remembered why more people don’t do it. It was a logistical nightmare — weeks of chasing down emails, nagging people for photos, and then dozens of hours hunched over an “arts and crafts” project trying to make it look professional.

The sentiment was priceless, but the coordination was brutal.

I built Abound because I believe a genuine portrait of a person — told by everyone who loves them — is the most powerful gift you can give. I wanted to put that heartfelt weight within everyone’s reach, without the weeks of legwork.

From digital walls to physical heirlooms

Today, we’ve mostly settled for “digital message walls” or group e-cards. They’re easy, but they’re forgettable — a scroll of messages that lives in a browser tab and fades the moment the celebration is over.

Abound is the opposite. We’ve built a proprietary engine that takes the unpredictable input of a group — long stories, short notes, old photos — and composes them into a consistent, editorial-grade hardcover book.

No dragging, no cropping, no design degree required. Just a beautiful, 6×9 linen-bound keepsake that lives on a shelf for decades.

Our promise

At Abound, we don’t just sell books; we help you turn the people you love into the gift itself. Whether it’s wedding wishes for a new couple, a retirement tribute from a whole team, or a “just because” book for a grandparent, we’re here to help you capture the irreplaceable words of the people who matter most.

Thank you for letting us help you celebrate your people.
